MICKA
‘‘ WE GO AROUND THE SMALL CLIFF AND END UP
IN THE GIGANTIC BLUE LAGOON BEHIND
THE REEF. THE SPOT IS JUST OVER
HALF A MILE OFF THE BEACH
AND THE WIND IS SIDE OFF.’’
The wind is light, 12 to 14 knots, but the waves are there, 2 me-
ters, clean and nobody out. We pump up our 11m kites in the
lagoon of the windy coast; only way to access to the wave with
this light wind. We go around the small cliff and end up in the
gigantic blue Lagoon behind the reef. The spot is just over half a
mile off the beach and the wind is side off.
A boat is supposed to join us from the other side of the island
with our photographer. I hope there won’t be any motor issue
because if the wind dies, the swim will be long. I am the thinnest
of all three; the sharks will probably choose the others… We see
a white spot on the horizon, it’s our boat: can let loose. Well, not
that much: the reef is sharp with a few cracks all along where
the wave breaks, especially in the impact zone where we eat it
the most. There is no issue: the fins won’t pass in some spots, we
have to do everything perfectly to find the exit.
